Welcome to MeCycle

A thriving social enterprise destination café and bike shop that provides supported work experience for autistic people of all ages

Established in 2011 MeCycle was originally set up as a project in Seaforth by Autism Initiatives. We moved to our current corner site at Ainsdale in 2012 and have proven to be a popular destination with cyclists from all around the borough and much further afield!

We restored this original provisions store and used mainly recycled and second hand furniture to fill the shop and give it its unique look and feel.

We pride ourselves on recycling as best we can, making sure that all scrap metal is recycled

Enterprise

MeCycle receives donated bikes and refurbished them for resale in the shop along with a range of new bikes and cycle accessories. We also fix and repair. All repairs are either completed by or overseen by Cytec qualified bike mechanics.

During these challenging times MeCycle continues to offer a full bike shop service for sales and repairs helping to keep people active and exercising during lock down.

We are following strict procedures to protect our staff and customers including a deep cleaning routine and adherence to social distancing.

Currently MeCycle's café is only providing a limited take away service, but usually the café acts as a popular destination for cyclists both locally and as far afield as North Wales, Manchester and Chorley. You will always see families, couples and groups meeting and chatting, eating and drinking from a selection of barista coffees, exciting teas, cold drinks, beers and wine as well as home-made cakes, soups and sandwiches.

The café is available for group meetings and has a range of evening events including a Community Choir and Ladies Social Group. We also provide a range of cycle activities, Friday rides, Dr Bike sessions and basic maintenance courses.

Social

Alternative Education

We work alongside Peterhouse School and OSSME and local schools to create a selection of meaningful alternative education placements within the busy setting of this social enterprise. Young people can learn about and gain skills in employability, cycle maintenance, sales and customer service, catering and café work, recycling, handling cash and banking, health and safety in the workplace. This can be supported by e-learning.

Adult Work Placements

We also offer a wide range of employment focussed, autism specific supported work placements for adults that encourage learning new skills and improve people’s health and well-being. These placements can be supported by e-learning.

We aim to create opportunities for autistic people that will help them have ownership and understanding of their own lives and futures
